Now that vaccines are widely available and recognizing that many of our staff are already vaccinated, vaccination will be a condition of employment for new hires, except when impossible due to legitimate, established exceptions. The vaccine must be a two-dose COVID-19 vaccination series approved by Health Canada. This is one more important step to protect both our residents and staff as we continue to battle this deadly virus.

Reporting to the Manager - Investment Accounting, the Investment Accountant is responsible for being the primary point of contact for Brighton's investees and act as a liaison with internal accounting teams, recording and maintaining investment accounts, performing reconciliations of investment accounts, and coordinating with other finance departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for Brighton's investees, act as a liaison with internal accounting teams, and remain familiar with the organizational structure;

  • Assist with performing reconciliations of investment accounts (including equity-accounted investments) and the financial statements of Brighton's investees;

  • Support internal Brighton Finance teams in data requests;

  • Assist with providing project support for significant acquisitions and dispositions that involve investment accounting;

  • Assist with review and analysis of monthly general ledger uploads;

  • Create and maintain mapping files from the investee's chart of accounts to Brighton's chart of accounts;

  • Be available for ad-hoc requests and to complete all other tasks as assigned; and

  • Uphold and promote the organization’s values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Brighton’s Code of Conduct; and

  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Credentials and Experience:

  • Degree or Diploma in Accounting;

  • CPA designation (or pursuing) is an asset;

  • 3-5 years of experience in accounting with real estate and/or health care is preferred;

  • Experience in application and interpretation of accounting standards, IFRS preferred (ASPE, US GAAP is a plus);

  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Excel with intermediate levels required in other MS Office applications;

  • Strong organizational skills, detail orientated with proven capability to contribute to varied projects, strong analytical and problem-solving skills;

  • Strong interpersonal skills and communications skills;

  • Able to handle multiple tasks in a dynamic work environment, work well under pressure and meet deadlines; and

  • Willingness to work extended hours to meet reporting requirements.
