Vaccines are a proven, safe and powerful weapon in our battle against COVID-19. Now that vaccines are widely available and recognizing that many of our staff are already vaccinated, vaccination will be a condition of employment for new hires, except when impossible due to legitimate, established exceptions. The vaccine must be a two-dose COVID-19 vaccination series approved by Health Canada. This is one more important step to protect both our residents and staff as we continue to battle this deadly virus.

Reporting to the Director, Total Rewards, the Benefits Manager is responsible for managing the relationships with and service levels of employee benefits providers and partners; for contributing to the strategic review and design of benefits programs within the umbrella of Total Rewards and for serving as the Subject Matter Expert regarding employee benefits and pension plan design. Employee Benefits includes health & wellness programs, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement savings, and EFAP programs.

**This is a one year contract position.**

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish bi-weekly premiums for ASO benefits, as a result of change or annual review of projected benefits costs;

  • Calculate projected annual benefit spend for budget purposes;

  • Manage the relationships, contracts and service levels of vendor partners and third parties;

  • Support Labour Relations team during contract negotiations with pricing and strategy;

  • Conduct ongoing analysis of claims, costs and funding practices;

  • Process policy amendments with respect to union contract revisions or M&A activity;

  • Ensure employees have an adequate understanding and appreciation of available benefits, for example, by developing and/or maintaining employee communication material related to employee benefits;

  • Support M&A, new build, re-development and disposition activities, in particular, with respect to benefits program due diligence, set-up/removal, and integration;

  • Identify opportunities to simplify and standardize benefits plan design to simplify required administrative processes and support strategy;

  • Respond to escalated questions and issues from internal clients by interpreting benefits policies and intent; to make benefits policy exception decisions as applicable;

  • Ensure documents are filed with applicable government bodies according to regulation and legislation;

  • Conduct annual pension audit with consultants in order to file financial statements;

  • Coordinate pension committee meeting with senior leadership team, attend and take minutes;

  • Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Revera's Code of Conduct;

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Credentials and Experience:

  • University degree in HR, Business or Accounting; Benefits designation preferred

  • Minimum 5 to 7 years of experience with group benefits, inclusive of administration, consultant and vendor management, and analysis

  • Experience managing group benefits in a unionized environment

  • Expert knowledge of benefits and retirement program ("benefits") policies and administration procedures, including applicable regulations

  • Demonstrated analytical skills with ability to make recommendations

  • Good understanding of general accounting principles

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, including advanced skills in Microsoft Excel

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Organized and strong attention to detail with an ability to manage complex plan designs
